What does I LOVE YOU mean?
It was during the Korean War. We had only a few days of rice left to eat. Mother and I always ate together. But one day Mother brought a bowl of rice and said, “Eat.” “What about you?” I asked. “I’ll eat later,” was her reply. Without thinking this hungry 14 year old boy shoveled the food down to his stomach. A little later I spied Mother in the kitchen. She scraped what was left over in the rice pot – less than a spoonful – and put it in her mouth and chewed slowly… Filled with remorse and helplessness, I quietly tiptoed out of the house. That memory still aches my heart. But above all, it taught me the meaning of loving someone.
