The honeymoon is over, and a serious conjugal life begins.
Wife says, “We have bread for breakfast, bread for lunch, and bread for supper.”
Husband counters, “I am from Korea. I want rice for breakfast, rice for lunch, and rice for supper.”
“This is America,” Wife says. “In America we do the American way.”
“America is a free country,” Husband says. “I do my way.”
“I am the cook in our family,” Wife says. “You eat what I serve.”
“I am the bread winner of the house,” Husband replies. “You cook what I tell you.”
Where will this conversation lead? A happy ending? No, as long as both want their ways, there will be conflict instead. The conflict will lead to glum faces and cold hearts. The cold hearts freeze and shatter in time.
I want my way mentality leads to broken marriages, broken churches, broken governments… broken world.
When I want my way gets mixed with my way is the right way, wars ensue among nations and among religions. Hitler wanted his way and he believed that his way was the right way to the world peace and started WWII in Europe. Hideki Tojo wanted his way because he believed that his way was the right way to the world peace and attacked Pearl Harbor and started WWII in the Pacific. Christianity and Islam have been in wars through the centuries because the extremists in each group believed that their god was the right god. Tens of millions of innocent people got killed as the results.
I believe that we, all, seek peace and brotherhood to live in peace and harmony in this tiny planet called earth. But how can we have peace and brotherhood if we want only our ways?
What should we do?
Is there a solution?
